The best early base location is not necessarily the prettiest one. A practical location reduces pathing problems, keeps core resources convenient and leaves enough room for the base to grow.
1. Prioritize usable space
Choose terrain that gives workers and structures enough room to function without constant obstruction. Flat, accessible space is often more useful than a visually dramatic location.
2. Check what the area saves you from gathering manually
Nearby resources can shorten recurring chores. Favor locations that support the resource loop you are actually using rather than trying to cover every material at once.
3. Consider travel convenience
A base is also a logistics point. Think about how often you will leave, where you tend to explore and how easily you can return with materials.
4. Leave room for the next systems
You do not need a final endgame layout immediately, but avoid a spot that becomes cramped after only a few additions. Expansion space prevents an early rebuild.
